Free local activities

Coming from a city where there wasn't much to do locally, one of the reasons I love Charleston is that there is always something to do and even better, something free to do!

  1. Stroll along the waterfront streets admiring Charleston's rich history and beautiful architectural landscape. Use Broad Street as a starting point and explore the city's historic neighborhoods and landmarks at your own pace.

  2. Enjoy the outdoors: Charleston has a number of parks and green spaces where you can enjoy the outdoors, including Hampton Park, which features a botanical garden and a lake, and the James Island County Park, which offers hiking trails, a waterpark, and a ropes course.

  3. Check out the local art and antique scene: Charleston has a thriving arts community, and there are many galleries and studios where you can see local artists' work for free. Use Upper King street and Queen street as your starting point.

  4. Walk the ravenel bridge for an incredible view of the Charleston Harbor

  5. Walk along any of the beaches. Isle of Palm, Sullivan’s Island, or Folly beach lighthouse.

  6. Play beach volleyball at the windjammer on Isle of Palms.
